Friday 29 January 2027 at the Royal Society of Arts, London, and live online

Everything art school never taught you, in one day.

Tickets open in

Tickets open on Tuesday 3 November 2026 at midday UK time.

Four talks on the business of being an artist: pricing your work, building an audience, working with galleries and winning funding. One room of working artists, and a plan you take home.

165 seats in the Great Room, and 500+ artists already on the waitlist.

You already make the work. What nobody hands you is the rest of it: what to charge, who to tell, which doors to knock on and where the money is.

For one day, we hand you all of it. You walk in with the questions you have carried for years. You walk out knowing exactly what to do on Monday morning.

Creative Flair Live, hosted by James Carter

Four talks. The questions artists actually ask.

Every session is built around the things you have searched for at midnight and never found a straight answer to. Practical, honest, and ready to use the next morning.

Pricing your work

How to set prices you can stand behind, raise them with confidence and say them out loud without flinching.

  • What should my work cost right now?
  • When is it time to raise my prices?
  • What do I say when someone asks for a discount?
  • Should my prices be on my website?

Building an audience online

What actually grows a following that buys your work, from someone who built one to 248,000 people.

  • Why do my posts get likes but not sales?
  • What do I post when I have nothing new to show?
  • How does a follower become a collector?
  • Do I really need to be on every platform?

Working with galleries

How galleries choose artists, how to approach them, and what to expect once you are in.

  • How do galleries actually find artists?
  • What do I send, and who do I send it to?
  • What is a fair commission?
  • Do I even need a gallery?

Grants and funding

Where the money is, how to write applications that get funded, and which deadlines to plan your year around.

  • Which grants am I actually eligible for?
  • What makes an application stand out?
  • How do I write about my work without sounding stiff?
  • Which deadlines should shape my year?

And the final hour

A panel of working artists and arts professionals, and the floor is yours for the questions you came with.

Panel guests are announced soon.

James Carter speaking to a room of artists at a London private view

Your host, James Carter

Painter, founder of Creative Flair and author of VISIBLE. James has spent years helping working artists get seen, get funded and get paid, and he built an audience of 248,000 people doing it.

He hosts the day and leads the talks, with no slides full of theory and nothing held back. Just what works, what does not, and what to do next.

Also speaking

Charmaine Chanakira

A Zimbabwean artist, Afro expressionist painter, art psychotherapist and activist based in London, and the host of the Get Help podcast.

Charmaine didn’t set out to be an artist. She worked in graphic design and then IT, trained as an art psychotherapist, and found painting along the way. Her big, bright work on politics, memory, mental health and the Black experience has since been picked as a Director’s Choice on Saatchi Art. On the day she shares how she got here, and then the floor is yours.

The Royal Society of Arts

Since 1754, the Royal Society of Arts has backed the people who make things. It staged Britain’s first exhibition of contemporary art in 1760, helped pave the way for the Royal Academy, and counted Benjamin Franklin, Charles Dickens and Marie Curie among its members.

On 29 January, it is yours for the day. You take your seat in the Great Room, designed by Robert and James Adam, beneath James Barry’s monumental paintings The Progress of Human Knowledge and Culture, with a Gainsborough and a Reynolds looking on. When the talks end, we go down to the Vaults beneath the house for drinks with the room.
