Talking Art, an explanation

I love working on a black paper, the colours stand out. This image depicts two women lovers amongst flowers and grass. The black suggests a night-time encounter. The structure is a square within a horizontal rectangle. A formal depiction of reality is something I move away from allowing the energy to come from the elements and principles of structure and form. Every aspect is carefully structured to build a coherent composition. Lines, shapes and, movement create energy and dynamics. Lyrical lines twist and turn. The flowers are symbolic and light-hearted adding to the feeling of loving passion and joy, an emotional act rather than a formal narrative. A reality that is suggested rather than depicted. Understanding the structure of the composition is as important as the subject. Blocks of colour and flowers spark around the image with light and dark, harmonious and colour contrasts.
