An unusual form of fountain, it gurgles underground until swelling to the size of a misty column before dissipating again. At different times of the year, the institution generates varied amounts of heat, as well as weather-related variables, such as the amount of sun light, wind speed, and condensation.

It was an important piece in the emerging Land art movement because of its engagement with the terrain and the viewer’s concepts about perception and bodily awareness.
