Summary of Self-Portrait

Jacques-Louis David painted a self-portrait in 1794 while incarcerated at the Hôtel des Fermes for his involvement with the robespierristes, and it is known as The Self-Portrait. The 1791 Aux trois collets was his second self-portrait, and this was his final (Uffizi, Florence). He gave it to Jean-Baptiste Isabey, a former student, and it became part of the Louvre’s collection in 1852.
