Summary of Madame de Pompadour

Madame de Pompadour, or Jeanne Antoinette Poisson, Marquise de Pompadour, was a famous patron of Francois Boucher’s and the mistress of King Louis XV.

Madame de Pompadour, unlike the many other mistresses of the king, remained a presence at the court by developing a friendly connection with the Queen, attending the King on hunting expeditions and social gatherings, and commissioning paintings of herself that masked her ageing appearance.

The majority of her portraits were created by Boucher, though she did commission pieces from other artists.
