Many of van Gogh’s best paintings were created at Auvers, northwest of Paris in May 1890, when he relocated from the south of France. The scenery of early summer can be seen in the houses of Auvers. From above, the dwellings’ tiled and thatched roofs appear as a patchwork of colours in a flattened tapestry.
