Summary of Dr. Haustein

On Berlin’s Kurfürstendamm, Dr. Haustein was an expert in syphilis and dermatology who treated prostitutes. For several years in the late 1920s, many of the most important individuals in art and literature would gather at his home. Authors and politicians would meet with scientists and beautiful women in an atmosphere of “maximum erotic and intellectual freedom,” according to Schad.
