All About Perseus and Andromeda
Perseus’ shield appears to reflect the Gorgon in the artwork. Additionally, Tobiano Pegasus, the goddess of glory and a group of putti can be seen in the painting. Part of the bottom of the painting shows Cetus, who was killed earlier by Perseus.
Even after Rubens’ death, a 1684 engraving of the facade of Rubens’ house in Antwerp, which depicts the painting through the second-floor window, shows it. The Russian Hermitage Museum purchased the painting from Heinrich von Brühl’s collection in the summer of 1769. A new home has been found for it at the Hermitage Museum’s Rubens Hall, located on the museum’s second floor.
