About James Carter

James Carter is an artist and Fine Art and History of Art student at Goldsmiths University of London. Alongside his academic practice, he has built Creative Flair into a multi layered creative platform that supports thousands of artists through exhibitions, interviews, digital resources, courses and public art initiatives.

His work often explores themes of visibility, addiction, validation, ambition and failure. As an artist, James is currently developing multiple bodies of work including a large scale Addiction Series, which uses realism and symbolic objects to examine gambling, alcohol, phone dependency and modern forms of compulsive behaviour.

As a founder, James is recognised for building Creative Flair from the ground up into a platform that prioritises accessibility, honesty and sustainable income for creatives.

Art on the Street Week

James is the creator and producer of Art on the Street Week, a public art initiative that placed artworks by emerging artists on London billboards and bus stops.

The project transformed everyday urban advertising spaces into a city wide exhibition and included a public online gallery and a People’s Choice Award. Art on the Street Week was designed to challenge where art is allowed to exist and who gets visibility within the cultural landscape.

James has openly spoken about the difficulties behind the project, using it as a case study in creative risk, failure, uncertainty and building in public.
